How to Make Your LED TV Last Longer

A little care goes a long way. Most LED TV faults we repair trace back to a handful of avoidable causes — power surges, heat and poor handling. Here are six simple habits that can add years to your television’s life.

1. Protect Against Power Fluctuations

Voltage spikes and frequent fluctuations — common during the monsoon — are the number-one killer of TV power boards. A good surge protector or voltage stabiliser is the cheapest insurance you can buy for an expensive TV.

2. Give It Room to Breathe

Heat shortens the life of every electronic component. Leave a few centimetres of clearance around the TV — especially when wall-mounted — so air can circulate, and avoid boxing it into a tight cabinet.

3. Lower the Brightness and Use Eco Mode

Running at maximum brightness all day stresses the backlight and accelerates ageing. A slightly lower, more comfortable brightness — or the built-in eco/energy-saving mode — reduces heat and extends backlight life.

4. Clean the Screen the Right Way

Never spray liquid directly on the screen or use household glass cleaner. Use a dry or very slightly damp microfibre cloth, wiping gently. Harsh chemicals can permanently damage the panel’s coating.

5. Power Down Properly

Where possible, switch the TV off rather than leaving it in standby for days on end, and avoid yanking the plug while it’s running. Clean shutdowns reduce strain on the power supply.

6. Keep the Software Updated

Manufacturer firmware updates fix bugs, improve stability and patch issues that can cause apps to crash. Install them when prompted — over a stable connection — and don’t interrupt the process.

Pro tip: If your area has frequent power cuts or unstable voltage, a stabiliser rated for your TV is the single most effective upgrade you can make. It pays for itself the first time it prevents a power-board failure.

Looking after your TV reduces breakdowns — but if something does go wrong, FirstFix TV is a call away with fast, doorstep repair and an Annual Maintenance Contract for complete peace of mind.
